Abstract:

The goal of the proposed project is to build a mathematical model of the Domžale-Kamnik wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). With such a plant-wide model a coordinated operation and optimization of all subunits of the plant will be investigated. A special emphasize in the project will be on optimal operation of the anaerobic digestion unit as a renewable energy source and in reduction of its impact on the other subunits. Various control strategies and operating regimes will be tested by using the simulation model of the plant. The most promising operating regimes and control strategies that will give the best organic and nitrogen compound reduction, lower energy consumption and larger production of renewable energy will be tested also on the real plant.
